Checkmate Live Account Deletion Policy
1. Introduction
Checkmate Live respects user privacy and complies with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and related global standards. This Account Deletion Policy explains how personal information (PI) is managed when users request account deletion, as well as when certain data may be retained for compliance, legal, and operational purposes.
2. Requesting Account Deletion
Users can request account deletion at any time by following the in-platform instructions or by contacting our Support team at privacy@checkmate.live.
3. Scope of Deletion
Upon a valid deletion request, we will remove all Personally Identifiable Information (PII) that directly identifies the user, including but not limited to:
Name
Email Address
Payment Information
Profile Images
Non-required Communication Logs
However, certain identifiers and information related to FIDE ID, Federation ID, and game history may be retained for integrity purposes (see "Justification for Retention" below).
4. Participation in Prize Tournaments and Regulatory Requirements
If a user has participated in prize tournaments, certain records may be kept to comply with the following legal obligations:
Australian state/territory gaming and wagering laws
The Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) and Australian Consumer Law
Taxation and financial record-keeping requirements
International regulations applicable where events are hosted
Only the data necessary for these obligations is retained, and it will be securely disposed of or de-identified after the legally mandated period.
5. Justification for Retention
Certain data will be retained for legal, regulatory, and operational purposes:
Federation Identifiers and Event Results: To preserve historical records and maintain fairness in competitive contexts.
Integrity of Platform: For enforcing fair play and preventing violations by retaining minimal non-PII data (e.g., hashed identifiers).
Compliance with Legal and Regulatory Obligations: Including financial records, tax reporting, and anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) compliance.
6. Enforcement of Bans and Platform Integrity
Minimal non-PII data (e.g., hashed identifiers) may be retained to:
Enforce bans
Prevent previously banned users from rejoining This practice is consistent with industry standards and is done to maintain the integrity of the platform.
7. Legal and Regulatory Compliance
Certain data may be retained for the following compliance purposes:
Taxation: Retention of transaction records and billing information for reporting and auditing purposes.
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF) regulations: Retention of financial records, KYC data (such as proof of identity and wallet addresses), and transaction history.
Gaming Regulations: Retention of certain event-related data for compliance with international gaming laws and regulations.
Retention periods for these records are aligned with Australian and relevant international standards.
8. Data Security and Protection
All retained data is secured with industry-standard measures, encryption, and access controls, complying with APP 11 and other applicable regulations. Once the data is no longer required for retention, we will ensure its safe destruction or de-identification.
9. Transparency and Updates
This policy is part of our broader Privacy Policy. Any material changes to this policy will be notified to users, and users will have the opportunity to review the updates. Users may also request further details regarding retention periods if necessary.
10. Contact and Disputes
For questions, concerns, or requests regarding account deletion or any other privacy-related matters, users may contact our Support team or Data Protection Officer (DPO) at privacy@checkmate.live. If issues remain unresolved, users may contact the OAIC (Office of the Australian Information Commissioner), relevant Australian authorities, or the appropriate authority where events are hosted.
11. Periodic Review
We review and update this policy periodically to ensure continued compliance with legal requirements, industry standards, and platform needs.
