Ladders and Tournaments
Players on Checkmate can play chess online against a mate or a stranger, play the computer or compete in single-player or team-based tournaments.
Tournaments include:
Ladders: In a ladder tournament, players are ranked according to their performance and can challenge and play games against higher-ranked players to move up the ladder. The goal is to reach the top of the ladder and become the highest-ranked player.
Swiss-system tournaments: In a Swiss-system tournament, players are paired with opponents with similar scores in each round. The winner is typically determined based on the number of points scored by each player.
Knockout tournaments: In a knockout tournament, players are eliminated from the tournament as they lose games. The final winner is the last player remaining.
Round-robin tournaments: In a round-robin tournament, each player plays a series of games against every other player. The winner is determined based on the number of points scored by each player.
Team tournaments: In a team tournament, players compete against each other. The winner is typically determined based on the overall performance of the team.
Leagues: In a league tournament, players compete in a series of games over an extended period, with the winner being the player or team with the most points at the end of the league.
